Hello again to all our friends and family. Yes we are alive and I am pleased to announce the near impossible has occurred. Our friends at the local carrier have finally allowed us connection to the modern world. Just think if you thought Telstra was bad, its taken from Feb 6 till now to get reconnected.....but I must admit, at least frustration here can be akin to a slow painful reading of the bible...somewhat whimsical and a whole lot agonising.
Highlight number one: (Al Ain, end Feb)
Ness: When is this going to happen?!!!Why did you tell my husband 2 days from now, 2 days ago and now you've told me 3 months!!!
Customer service at Al Ain: Sorry madam, the customer is always right and needs to be happy, thats why we've been telling you 2 days for the past month"
Ness: So you've been lying to us?
Customer service: Yes, because we tell you what we think you want to hear......
Highlight number two: (Mafraq, April/May)
Customer service: Sorry there are no ports available.
Chel and Ness(begging): Are there any alternatives??
CS: Yes, wireless transmission, but it is very expensive.
C&N: How much??
CS: I dont know and the engineers will have to tell me after they connect the wires...
Highlight number three: (Mafraq, May)
Customer service: Sorry, but you may have to wait several months...en'shallah
Chel and Ness: OK, if thats final....
Chel and Ness:(to each other, resigned to failure)oh well we'll have to organise something else
14th May 8:15am....phone call from service technician.....Mr Chel I am at your villa and you are not home.
Chel: errrr what for??
Technician: to connect broadband sir.
Chel: ............silence (because I fainted from shock).....
Anyway enough slanging for the moment, here's some reno pictures of our villa. The first is plastering Arabic style, the second is an instant window which appeared whilst we were at work one day, and the third.....entry statement of rubble from window.....
